About the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is one of the favourite European tourist destinations and it is also becoming a centre of interest for medical tourism. This small country in the heart of Europe is unique for its beauty, history, cultural richness and professional services. The country boasts one of the lowest crime rates internationally and its capital, Prague, is one of the safest capitals in Europe.

Its capital, Prague, is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful places in the world and is called the ‘city of a thousand spires’ due to its stunning medieval architecture, and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city, which once used to be a European cultural, political and commercial centre, reflects eleven centuries of history and at the same time has a modern cosmopolitan atmosphere.

The historical centre of Prague still charms its visitors – the Old Town, the astronomical clock, the mysterious Jewish district, the Lesser Town (Mala Strana), the river Vltava, Charles Bridge and Prague Castle are just part of the beauty you can find at every turn. Cultural experiences are unlimited: concerts, theatre, operas, musicals and exhibitions take place every day of the week. In cinemas, most films are screened in their original language version which makes them appealing and accessible to non-Czech speakers.

The capital city also offers a variety of shopping facilities both in shopping centres and in luxurious shops in the streets of the historical centre, restaurants and stylish cafés, typical Czech pubs and modern music clubs.

The official language is Czech, a Slavonic language. German, and especially English, are widely spoken in Prague. As far as services are concerned (hotels, transport and most restaurants) these two languages are a must and usually other languages are also spoken – particularly Russian, Spanish and French.

The climate in the Czech Republic is mild and continental with four clearly defined seasons. Winter temperatures typically fall close to zero; summer is warm with temperatures around twenty degrees.

The currency is the Czech crown (CZK or Kc), the exchange rate is approximately between 20 to 25 crowns to one Euro (EUR) and 30 crowns to one pound Sterling (GBP). International credit and debit cards are widely accepted at the majority of shops, restaurants, hotels and other locations as well as at all the ATMs around the city.
